INCH BY INCH

Washington, DC
2007

On January 27, 2007, TRIIIBE joined a half million people in Washington, DC to protest the war in Iraq. Each identical triplet dressed to represent a group of people who died in the conflict: Sara as those killed in the 9/11 attack on the New York World Trade Center, Kelly as the coalition soldiers killed in Iraq, and Alicia as the Iraqi civilians who have died in the conflict. Each square inch of the crimson fabric they hold represents 12 casualties.

 Lady inJustice

Washington, DC
January 30, 2006

What drove us to DC on an eerily quiet, cold January day, was the inauguration of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.  George W. Bush appointed Alito to replace Sandra Day O’Connor, who was one of only two women on the court.

Through this solemn piece, we expressed our fear of the unbalancing of the Supreme Court. We represented Lady Injustice—her scales tipped to the right, her blindfold slid down her face to gag her mouth, and her sword converted to a cross. Little did we know how fateful this addition to the court would become.

 MARIONETTES

Trillium Studio
2007

Cary had this vision of us being marionettes. We wanted to have this relate to our lives as being triplets. We have the blessing of never being alone but also the curse of being so intertwined. We decided to have the strings attached so no movement could be made without affecting one another. We went through some effort to get to this point, learning how to turn wood and building harnesses to suspend us in the air; but after this test shot, we realized it accentuated the frustrating feeling of being so interconnected. We never returned to this project.

ART ON ART/
PEOPLE ON PLYWOOD

Institute of Contemporary Art
April 2008

TRIIIBE staged a guerilla action in the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston during the exhibition, "The World as a Stage." For nearly four hours the group took over the sculpture, Falha, by artist Renata Lucas.

TRIIIBE used part of the Lucas work (hinged sheets of plywood) to create a set of pedestals. Sara Casilio, struck a pose atop a pedestal with a plaque reading, "The Museumgoer, April 2008. Mixed media." Kelly Casilio and Alicia Casilio, dressed as ICA museum guards, posed near The Museumgoer. Several other pedestals, complete with plaques and titles such as Recently Divorced, Pretty Girl, Man and Child, Entrepreneur, Security Guard, In Love, Sixty Percent Water, and Damaged were ready to receive any ICA visitor who chose to become art.

Delighted by the reaction, the exhibition's curator invited TRIIIBE back for another performance and the fun began again.

BAILOUTS AND BONUSES

New York City
2008

In 2008 TRIIIBE hit Wall Street with a guerrilla performance just as Wall Street banks prepared to pay year-end bonuses to top management at the same time asking for government bailouts. The three were dressed as businesswomen carrying briefcases overfilled with money while panhandling the public with tin cups. TRIIIBE set up in front of the New York Stock Exchange and the American International Building, home of the insurance giant AIG.

TRIIIBE IN FIVE

MassArt Auction
2009

TRIIIBE was asked to create a five second video of themselves for an upcoming benefit art auction. They shot more than 400 still images and worked with film editor Yari Wolinsky to craft the finished 5-second piece.

 Multiples Night

Gallery Kayafas
2010

During one of our opening nights at Gallery Kayafas, the public was invited to attend as multiples. We were thrilled when people showed up dressed in coordinating outfits and posed for each other and the camera. The spirit of TRIIIBE was inspiring others!

PROFILE

Sampson Projects Gallery
2010

TRIIIBE designed and installed multiple photo stands at the Sampson Projects Gallery in Boston. On the wall they hung photo-masks of their own faces showing a variety of emotions. Visitors were invited to choose a mask to wear and write a note in a thought bubble on the wall.

Student photographers set up their cameras at each stand to record the moment. These are just some of the photographs from the event.

 FINE WALLPAPER

An animation inspired by a book
inspired by a photograph
inspired by a fabric
2012

Well yes, it is an art book, but it really is a grand collaboration. It started with a photograph by TRIIIBE called Fine. “Fine.” Say it flat and hard, passive-aggressively as if you are going to go along with something that you don’t really agree with. TRIIIBE created it to be part of a series. Each new picture would “evolve” from the previous with the subjects gradually disappearing into the background.

That idea turned into a book. The book inspired an animation.

Here are some of the key players:
TRIIIBE: Alicia, Kelly, and Sara Casilio and Cary Wolinsky.
Daniel Kelm is one of the world’s great book artists.
Rick Kyle calls himself a “retoucher”, but we think of him as the go-to person when you need a Photoshop artist.
Bob Korn is a master printer who lives and works on Cape Cod.
Concept and animation by Yari Wolinsky of Trillium Studios, with help from Babs Wolinsky on design and Cary Wolinsky on still camera.
